Manfred Vorenberg was born in 1922 in Kassel, Germany and then lived in Meimbressen, Germany. In 1936, his parents, wanting to protect him from the escalating persecution by the Nazis, sent him to live with his uncle in Denver, Colorado. There he enjoyed the American way of life and entered Colorado State University. His education was interrupted by World War II, which took him to Hawaii, Korea, and Okinawa. At an army Post Exchange in Honolulu, Hawaii, he crossed paths with one of his childhood friends from Germany, another Holocaust survivor, Lee Mason.
After he was discharged, Fred finished his education and married Elizabeth Guembel. They owned a cattle ranch in Colorado Springs for 36 years. After Fred had several heart attacks, they moved to El Paso for the lower altitude and to be with their friends, the Masons. Fred stayed busy substitute teaching all over El Paso until he fell ill and passed away in January 2005.
