EPHM is pleased to partner with Congregation B’Nai Zion, as part of their Book Zone series, to welcome:

Rebecca Erbelding

for a presentation and signing of her award-winning book, Rescue Board: The Untold Story of America’s Efforts to Save the Jews of Europe

Rebecca Erbelding is a historian of American responses to the Holocaust and the author of the authoritative history of the War Refugee Board, Rescue Board: The Untold Story of America’s Efforts to Save the Jews of Europe (Doubleday, 2018), winner of the 2018 National Jewish Book Award for Writing Based on Archival Material (the JDC-Herbert Katzki Award). She is also a historian, archivist, and curator at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Rescue Board details the work of the War Refugee Board, a US government agency–run by a group of Treasury Department lawyers, most of them in their 30s–which rescued Jews during the Holocaust. They begged, borrowed, bribed, laundered money, falsified documents, opened a refugee camp, and threw the weight of the United States government behind their plans, ultimately saving tens of thousands of lives.

Ms. Erbelding’s talk will be followed by a book signing and refreshments.

Rescue Board is available for sale in EPHM’s Bookstore.
